What with our Centennial-and-a-quarter having been passed and all, Charlie Farquharson has seen fit to retrieve his historian's hat and pen and up-to-here-and-now edition of his best selling Histry of Canada, that unique chronicle of our home and native land. For the benefit of those unfamiliar with the unraveling story of our nation, Charlie begins in the mists of our times.
Back then the land was still in the capable hands of our first citizens - yer West Coasters, the Hyeeda, the Squeamish and yer Marrytimer McMacs. In our eastern parts however, successive waves of discoverers and settlers washed ashore and began hewing wood and drawing water. Many of those newcomers were originally headed for fame and fortune in the Far East and desperate to get around our mass of land, however most were convinced by the sheer size of the obstacle in their way that they should make a go of it in Canada.
